We are on much firmer footing when deciding which groups of early English Baptists to consider, since there are only two main streams: General and Particular. We will consider both of these groups below. First we will consider representative personal and corporate confessions of General and Particular Baptists. Then we will consider the writings of Benjamin Keach. Although this is an exception to the confessional focus of the chapter, we include Keach because he was instrumental in the Particular Baptist movement in England and also influenced the wording of one of the most important early American Baptist confessions, the Philadelphia Confession of Faith (1742).
